Sire: Jewel's Leo Bars Dam: Freckles O Lena
Doc Freckles Leo was foaled on May 1, 1989, in Pali Oklahoma, as a result of Top Gun Ranch breeding program and was first registered to Pat Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Cutting Horses.
He was then sold as a yearling in 1990 to Don & Sylvia Taylor, Minco Oklahoma. In December 1991 Doc Freckles Leo was sold through a futurity sale in Fort Worth, Texas to Bob and Mary Zirnhelt
of Zirnhelt Cutting Horses, located in Kamloops, BC.
Doc Freckles Leo stayed in Texas with trainer, Winston Hansma, training for the 3yr old futurities. By the time the Futurities arrive Winston suggested to Zirnhelts to let the young stallion be trained for another year and mature into a solid four year old,
and then begin his show career.
The stallion came to Canada in 1992 after the NCHA futurity with Les Timmons, then of Lacombe, Alberta.
Les also but in some training in on Doc Freckles Leo prior to his final destination in Kamloops. Doc Freckles Leo was
shown by both Les Timmons and Bob Zirnhelt in Open classes and by Mary Lynn in non-pro classes.
Doc Freckles Leo was shown at many shows in Canada and in the Pacific National Exhibition over his illustrious career.
As of August of 2003 he won over $55000 in cutting competitions. He has proven himself as a performance horse.
The foals from Doc Freckles Leo almost all carry the DFL prefix in their registered names and are fast making excellent reputations
for themselves.
To summarize Doc Freckles Leo the best here is what Mary Lynn said in the 2003 October Northern Horse Review;
"Doc's prepotency gives his get the same great qualities he possesses himself.
His disposition is very laid back and easy-going, resulting in patient intelligence
in the show pen and a great ability to absorb the lessons of training.
He reads cattle extremely well and, as a stud, is very easy to handle.
He tends to throw excellent conformation and a good size, with most heights between
14.2 and 15 hands.
Doc is a truly outstanding horse."
